In this workshop, brought to you by Klaus animator Giovanni Braggio, every student will choose a character and audio of roughly 10 seconds to build an acting performance starting from their preliminary thoughts and first ideas to a final tie-down. The first week will be about finding the right idea and communicate it efficiently to your director, the second one will be focused on the rough animation, the third one on the tie-down, and the last one will be about polishing your shot adding details and lipsynch.

Students will learn how to handle a 2d acting shot with dialogue, discuss the importance of body and face acting, and how to find an appealing and clear way to communicate the character’s emotions. You’ll explore different takes on the same shot without wasting too much time and energy and learn to keep the drawings consistent and solid, to handle the movement from the main volumes to the tiny details, and how to chart our animation for better communication with the other departments.
